When or how is it possible to change the notifications in whatsapp. I don't mean a personal sound for a contact but just the general notification when you receive a whatsapp message. I can only choose from standard sounds but would like to have a customized one. So I don't have to check my phone if someone at work receives a message. I know it is possible on android phones. Why not on iphone?

Whatsapp developers would need to do that as only the app can differentiate between different senders. They already offer a different sound for groups (but not individual groups)
Apple cannot help.
Contact the app developers on their site or leave a review on App Store. Give it one star and they may read it.
Maybe I misunderstood. Are you saying you can't assign a purchased ringtone to Whatsapp notifications? That may be a limitation of ios in which sase leave a feature request at Apple.com/feedback
Why would it be a whatsapp problem as it does work on android? But i will to do as you mentioned
Different app. Different operating system. Only the user interfaces look similar. The server side code and databases back at Whatsapp Ranch are the only common code.
On Android I can use tools to insert an mp3 into the relevant sound library.
iOS is much more secure. I like it that way personally.
