Apple News Widget Not Opening
Why can’t I click and open a story from the widget?

Hey pa261,
If we understand correctly, the News widget is not opening. One thing you can try is to restart the iPhone. Try removing the widget and add it again.
Are other widgets opening?
Use widgets on your iPhone and iPod touch
