My 2015 MacBook pro is much slower shutting down than when new. Is there something I can do to correct this?

Run the Apple Diagnostics.

Run Disk Utility First Aid on the SSD. Even if First Aid reports everything is "Good" make sure to expand the details and check to see if there are any unfixed errors. If there are any unfixed errors, then you will need to backup or clone the drive so that you can erase the whole drive to recreate the file system before restoring from the backup or clone.

Run EtreCheck and post the report here using the "Additional Text" icon which looks like a piece of paper.
