Why can't I use my regular remote since I hooked up my apple tv

It would also help us if you identified you "regular remote". What many users (including myself) do if we have a number of devices such as an Apple TV, TV, DVD player, Sound bar, HT Receiver etc.. is to use a universal remote control that can control all of the devices. For example I happen to use Logictech Universal Remote controls as I have 4 Apple TVs in my home.

It seems you're having some issue with your TV remove and we want to help.


Your Apple TV doesn't interact with or disable your remote in any way.


If your remote isn't working anymore, try making sure there's nothing interfering with the IR receiver.


Some TV remotes also use Bluetooth, which might be receiving interference depending on the placement of your Apple TV or other Bluetooth and Wi-Fi enabled devices.


Consider following these steps to minimize wireless interference if applicable:
