iPod Classic model MC 293 160GB

The battery was totally flat and when I recharged it it has zero music showing even though the memory shows 149GB used. I've tried rebooting the device but it just starts up the same. I foolishly never backed it up and really don'yt want to lose 7000+ songs. Help!
