IOS 14.0.1 no sync with MPB Mojave 10.14.6

Hi. My iPhone 8 Plus runs IOS 14.01.

My MBP mid 2012 (16 GB RAM / 1 TB SSD) runs Mojave 10.14.6

Since I've updated iPhone to IOS 14, no way to sync with iTunes.

A message sayng "a software update is required to connect iPhone 8 Plus, referring to MacOS Catalina.

I don't want Catalina, will stick with Mojave, runs super smoothly, I'll keep it.

How to sync? Thanks a lot.

That is normal and will not install Catalina. See:

If you see "Software update is required to connect to your iOS device" on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

I had that last month when I upgraded an iPad to iPadOS 14 using iTune on my iMac running Mojave.

The download is NOT a system software upgrade. I had Mojave when I allowed the patch and I still have Mojave. No problem.

The dowload is small and took two minutes to install. I believe it patches iTunes to allow you to continue to do backups, upgrades, and synching of your device through iTunes as you did them before. Another user found system.log files after the little update that seem to confirm only iTunes is patched.

Hi, thanks a lot for your time. But I think the last Mojave update is the one I've already downloaded, i.e. 10.14.6.

Although my iTunes version is 12.9.5.5

I've googled it and found a new iTunes one, 12.10.9 but is nowhere to be found, couldn't update it.

On System Preferences, no available update to 12.10.9 version.

On the other hand, the funny thing is an old iPhone 4S, that I use exclusively for my music, stuck in IOS 6, sync flawlessly with iTunes. Could it be a bug that can be fixed on a new IOS 14 update? (Maybe 14.2?)

Cheers.

Hi, thanks for helping.

But there’s nothing on “more info”.

The only option remaining in softawre update is Catalina.

My MBP won’t be updateable to Big Sur, so Mojave is my best option and is runnin super smoothly.

Could this be a software bug?

I mean, people who have MBPs up to 2011, for example, weren’t able to go beyond Mojave and hopefully can use iTunes... or maybe IOS 14 got rid of the iTunes and there’s no way to sync music anymore?

Cheers

I had the same issues re: Mojave and i OS 14 and was fearful about being forced upgraded to Catalina.

But Allan's advice is spot on - so thank you !

I chatted to Apple Support and they didn't even know about this - they too were under the impression it would force an upgrade to Catalina .... which of course it doesn't.

I asked them to reword the alert, whether they will or not remains to be seen.

Thanks again Allan.
