Installing OS X Mavericks on macbook pro 2014

ok so I recently purchased a MacBook Pro 2014 when I switched it on I had to install always via internet recovery. Once recovery was finished I had to create a new partition and now I'm having to wait 14 hours to install addional components for os x mavericks.

My question is this normal? Waiting 14 hours or have l done some incorrect.

Any help would be much appreciated due to me being a newbie with using macbook.

It depends on the speed of your Internet connection and whether the SSD is working properly in your laptop. It is usually best to connect the Mac directly to the router using an Ethernet cable and the appropriate adapter which in this case would be a Thunderbolt to Gigabit Ethernet Adapter. A wired connection may be faster and more reliable than a wireless connection plus it will avoid any possible WiFi issues if any exist.

You can also try booting into Internet Recovery Mode using Command + Option + R which in theory should boot the macOS 10.15 Catalina online installer (sometimes it may only boot the oldest installer available instead).

If you have access to another Mac which is compatible an OS from macOS 10.11 to 10.15, then you can use it to create a bootable macOS USB installer:
