False WIFI Security Information

Every once in a while my phone will not connect to the internet. When I go to Settings, the WiFi says weak security. My Router is set to Version WPA2-PSK and the encryption is set to AES. The glitch goes away after 2 to 4 minutes. This happens to my iPhone XR and my iPad 6th generation. Both have been updated to ios 14.0.1. Is this something to be addressed in the next update.

Hi, Kevmarcol58.

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities. We’re glad you decided to reach out about the security warning you’re seeing on your iPad and iPhone when connected to your Wi-Fi network.

If we understand correctly, you’re using a WPA2-PSK (AES) security setting on your network. We encourage you to read about the recommended Wi-Fi settings for Apple products in their support article here:

Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points - Apple Support

Note that of the three acceptable security modes, the WPA2 Personal (AES) is the least secure option. You should use one of the more secure modes, if possible. This may be why you’re seeing the weak security warning.

All our best.
