reinstall original MacOSX 10.13.

RE: iMac, (late 2009) Model A1311. My system is not installing a full startup menu. Has started to omit some choices in startup drop down menus. Can/should I reinstall the currently installed OSX V10.13.6 or must I use the original MacOS delivered with the system? Where, on the net, can I download the OS I'll need? Does this approach sound appropriate? Thx.

Reinstall El Capitan or Later Without Erasing Drive

Please be sure you back up, if possible.

  1. Restart the computer. Immediately, at or before the chime, hold down the Command and R keys until the Apple logo and progress bar appear. Wait until the Utility Menu appears.
  2. Choose Disk Utility from the Utility Menu and click on the Continue button.
  3. After Disk Utility loads select the target volume (usually, "Macintosh HD") from the side list.
  4. Click on the Erase button in the Disk Utility toolbar. A panel should drop down.
  5. In the drop down panel set the partition scheme to GUID. Set the Format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.)
  6. Click on the Apply/Erase button and click on the Done button when it is activated.
  7. Quit Disk Utility and return to the Utility Menu.
  8. Select Install OS X and click on the Continue button to re-install macOS.

This will install the same version of macOS that you had previously installed.
