Macbook pro suddenly running slow

Hello,

My Macbook pro suddenly started having performance issues with software that I've been using for over a year on this computer without any issues. It's also freezing for a few seconds whenever the system starts up. This has been haunting me for a week and really rendering me unable to work for hours at a day and I haven't been able to find a solution. Any help is truly appreciated.

I'm currently running MacOS 10.14.16.

Here's my EtreCheck report:

First, the best way to make a Mac sluggish is to install anti-virus and or/ so-called "cleaning"apps. You have Avast and App Cleaner Pro. All that dreck interferes with protection you paid Apple a shed-load of money to build into Mac OS

Intelhaxem is probably not helping.

Opera components were using 57% of your CPU at the time of the test. That is too much for a browser to demand.

Security Update 2020-005 has been reported to cause a lot of grief for Mojave users. Had you a Time machine backup you could go back to before Oct 3 and restore from a stable system. See if you other backup scheme allows that.

Intermittent freezing is someting I got whe using WD external drives. To eliminate those as suspects, please disconnect them temporarily and run for an hour or so to see if things get better.

If you think that this was due to installing the Security Update on Oct 3, please let Apple know. It will help us all:

remove these, and your Mac will be fast again:

AVAST

Backblaze

OneDrive

AppCleaner

Google Chrome is a notorious resource hog. Its use should be minimized, and the Application should be closed when your use is complete.

"on the web" is great for sharing, but is Not an acceptable backup plan. You need to and obtain an external drive and enable Time machine, unless your chronoSync is to a local disk drive.

Welcome BoiiBoii11.

Although I realize some forums will flame you for starting a new thread, "new" is the best path here. Many of your senior helpers here (including me) are old and easily confused by multiple devices in one thread. 😉 And because of that, some very knowledgeable people will not respond to a tag-on. For undiluted help and the attention your problem deserves, a new thread is best here.

Be sure to include all the details you can to avoid getting into a protracted game of "20 Questions" including.

  • the mac OS version on each computer
  • if you added any software updates recently
  • if you have anti-virus or so-called"cleaning" software installed
  • etc

Thanks for understanding!
