Purchasing a new MacBook pro with 2tb of storage

I am a novice mac user. I am considering purchasing a 2 tb MacBook Pro, as the current one I own is 512gb and just not performing at optimal speed. It is an early 2015 model. My questions are? I use my mac mostly for photo and photo work, I already have 50,000 pictures on it and I plan on double that number. Do you think the 2tb 16gh will give me what I need to seamlessly do what I need to in photos? And in terms of backup, I would need a 2tb hard drive in addition to do the necessary backups. Thank you for your feedback?

If you are going to use any kind of image/photo processing apps, then 32 GB RAM would be better. Also, an external hard drive would be less expensive than having a huge capacity internal drive. You can just keep your entire photo library on the external and have a second one as a backup. Your internal will run more efficiently if it isn’t cluttered.

Storage space is not really related to performance at this point. As long as you have at leas 20 to 40GB free on your current drive performance should not be impacted.

Also depending on the size, quality, resolution and color depth of the photos you are handling, 100,000 photos may or may not be more than 512GB anyway.

I agree with babowa, that an external drive may be a better option if you want to keep tons of photos. You can get a much larger external drive than you can internal, and will be easier to swap out for a larger one if you need to have more storage.

It also makes backing up or copying it much easier.

I also agree, with the extra RAM, I'd go for more RAM over storage first.
