Edit iPhone auto-correct

This isn’t a text replacement things but an apple thing, likely with one of the 14.x updates.

To work around it (which we shouldn’t have to) you need to put in to the text replacement the word “and” to be replaced with “and”.

this is 100% an issue with the local dictionary, similar to how the devices screwed up the phone numbers after a 14.x update.

Check to see if a text replacement was set up. Tap Settings > General > Keyboard > Text Replacement, and see if there's an entry for "and":

This had been driving me crazy too. I fixed it by going into Settings/General/Keyboard/Text Replacement and then setting up two new shortcuts: one with the shortcut ‘abs’ and the phrase ‘and’ and one with ‘and’ for both. Not sure which one did it but I no longer have the problem. Hope it helps.

This worked for me. Thanks. Initially I set is up the wrong way though. When you add the replacement be sure to type in the word “and” as both the phrase and the shortcut.

I found it was because I was accidentally typing ‘ans’ and therefore was autocorrecting to ‘abs’.

To get around this I did the Settings/General/Keyboard/Text Replacement and replaced ‘ans’ with ‘and’.

This has now solved the issue!

Mine was typing 'amd' instead of 'and'. I put the phrase as 'and' and the shortcut as 'amd' and now its working for me! Trying to autocorrect it back to and even as I type this! Thanks again!!

Thank you. For those of us that need directions that go in order of the way you see stuff, here’s how I fixed it based on your idea.

go to settings/general/keyboard/text replacement

Then, click the plus sign in the top left corner.

for phrase put the word and

for shortcut put the word abs

phrase- and

shortcut- abs

I didn’t have to do the other idea mentioned, once doing this. I’m thinking some people might have mixed up the order of phrase and shortcut and that’s why it didn’t work for them, because I almost did the same.

I was so happy and shocked that there were so many others with this issue when I googled it. I replaced abs with and, and with and but I was still having the issue. I then just replaced and with and, and it worked as you can see.

LexanneF, I followed NBlueyes 76 but added: and / and for phrase and shortcut. So I have 3 pairs: and/and; abs/and & and/and - try have those 3 pairs. Hope it help.

I want to cry. I have tried everything- even turned off autocorrect altogether and STILL it says “abs” every time I type “and”. I would love if there would be an option to ELIMINATE a word altogether now because I HATE the word “abs”.

This is driving me bonkers. There should be someway to remove unwanted autocorrections. This one is unbelievably stupid though. Why on earth would we want one of the most common words in the English language changed to something that isn't a word! Is Apple trying to tell us we all need to do more stomach crunches or something???

I fixed mine with this solution. It was spelling 'ans' instead of 'and.'.. but now I have another problem. When I swipe type it spells 'Andy' instead of 'and'. So now I'm going to have to do this again... Seriously Apple. Let's code in something that prioritizes the word "and" over abs, ans, Andy, etc.

Every time I try to type the word for, autocorrect will change it to fir which is not a commonly used word.

It frustrates me because I have to correct it every time or I send the message and I look illiterate.

Please let us know what you find out! This is driving me crazy abs none of the solutions offered work. As you can see, even in this text box, "AND" is autocorrecting to "ABS"
