Compounding adjustment layers in fcpx
When I compound several adjustment layers to a single clip. The resulting clip has no effect, i.e it does not seem to be an adjusting layer.
Is it possible to compound adjustment layers ?

It is not quite clear what you are trying to achieve.
An adjustment layer is just an empty title.
By applying effects to this layer, they are applied to everything below.
It is hard to see why you'd want several of them, since you can apply many effects to the same adjustment layer.
There could be reasons for it, maybe you can elaborate a bit?
Anyway, the moment you make them into compound clips (if I understand correctly, that seems to be what you are doing), you are effectively disabling the "title background" in them, so (again, if I understand correctly) what you are seeing is expected behavior.

What Luis said...
You can definitely save adjustment layers in a compound clip. You just have to get used to using Break Apart Clip Items (Command-Shift-G) when you reapply them later on.
