Hello ant90,

Thanks for asking the Apple Support Communities for help with missing photos.

1. I recommend logging in to iCloud.com and checking if the photos are there. Also check if you are signed in to the device with a different Apple ID, as the pictures may be synced to that account. Check in Settings > [Your name] , the email address should show under the name. These two articles will help:

2. If the photos are located in iCloud, you can get a backup of the pictures there using these help articles:

3. If the photos are in iCloud, when you sign in using the same Apple ID on your device, they should re-sync to your device. This can take a little time depending on how large your iCloud Photo Library is. This article talks about this: Set up and use iCloud Photos - Apple Support

"You can see the status and pause the upload for one day.

  • On your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, go to Settings > [your name] > iCloud > Photos. You can also open the Photos app, go to the Photos tab, and scroll to the bottom of your screen."

4. Also, please ensure you have enough storage in iCloud. This article will help and states: Manage your iCloud storage - Apple Support

"If you run out of iCloud storage, your device won’t back up to iCloud, new photos and videos won't upload to iCloud Photo Library, and iCloud Drive, other iCloud apps, and your text messages won't stay up to date across your devices. And you can't send or receive emails with your iCloud email address."

5. If you still have missing pictures, please check these two articles:

6. If the photos are not in iCloud and you are not using iCloud Photo Library, they may be saved in your backups. In order to retrieve them, you will need to restore your backup to your device. Please be aware, restoring from a backup replaces the current data on your device with the data from the backup. Before doing this, you may want to make a separate backup just to protect the current data on your device. Meaning, if you are restoring from an iCloud backup, make an iTunes (or Finder depending on your macOS version) backup of the current data, or vice versa. This article will help make a backup: How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support

7. Once your data is backed up, this article will help your restore previous backups: Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch from a backup - Apple Support

Thanks and have a wonderful day.
