Java and the iPad

No java on the iPad. What you can do is see if the site that uses java has an app in the app store.

Are the Apple techs working to have Java, flash, and shockwave available on future iPads? I need that to take a course offered on the internet.
I would be wonderful to use the iPad instead of lugging the ole computer.

Java would be the responsibility of Sun, now owned by Oracle, to develop. Last I heard they'd given up work on a Java interpreter for iOS, but I've not seen anything from them recently on the subject.

Flash and Shockwave would be up to Adobe, and so far they can't even get a decent version of Flash working on Android, so the chance of seeing Flash on any iOS device (where Apple is exerting much more control over what is offered) in the near future is vanishingly small. Shockwave is all but dead, it appears, so that's not likely to ever appear on any mobile device, though predicting Adobe's plans is difficult.

If the consumer wants and needs this you would think Apple would accomodate. As a result my company is forgoing massively purchasing these since it does not support Java KVM which is necessary to run our enterprise learning management system. We had great plans to use this to help aide learning in the workplace.

You could perhaps think that, but Apple made it clear when announcing the iPad last January that Java (and Flash) would not be supported. You can tell them the consequences via the channel they have set up for such comments:

That is not an official statement by Apple; it's just speculation and interpretation of Apple's development guidelines by users just like you and me (from what I can tell, Markus Karg does not work for Oracle and so cannot speak for them). So nothing it that page should be taking as being in any way any indication that Oracle will ever develop a version of Java for iOS devices nor that Apple would accept it should such a version be developed.

Ask the developer of Power Teacher to make an app for the iPad ... Or look at alternatives. There are classroom management apps in the app store.
