how to get rid of safesearch

I have been cursed with the malware/adware/spyware search engine safesearch for years over many successive versions of Mac OS. It doesn't go away with updates. Is there any safe way to expel this pest permanently without downloading another potentially risky applications?

You could try malwarebytes. It's the only malware app we recommend around here. I saw some evidence that Malwarebytes fixes Safari malware.
