Apple Watch Pairing Failure - WatchOS Update Required - No Internet Connection

I attempted to pair a Apple Watch Series 4 running an unknown version of WatchOS today with an iPhone 11 Pro Max running iOS 14.0.1. The pairing failed repeatedly after the Apple Watch app on the iPhone attempted to download a firmware update for the watch. It kept complaining that there was no internet connection which was complete baloney.

We tried three phones. Four different internet services on Wifi - Xfinity/Comcast business class, AT&T hotspot, Verizon hotspot and finally a home Xfinity/Comcast connection with a huge download bandwidth for the latter.

Still did not work. Called AppleCare dead end. Routed to engineering for resolution. We've restarted devices, reset network settings on the IPhone, looked for and did not find corrupted firmware downloads in the Settings for the Watch and the phone.

It simply does not work. Basic internet research shows that I am not alone, but a fix doesn't seem to exist.

Anyone else encounter this?

No remember the watch isn't paired yet so you aren't able to access it the way you describe. However, my hunch panned out this morning. Apple has some infrastructure glitch. This morning the update registered, downloaded and is currently in the preparing stage. What is sad is that AppleCare was stumped and my ticket went to engineering. I really would like to see more service monitoring on Apple's part. If the server dishing out the updates was down and I was notified someone how it would have saved a lot of time and heartache.
