Lost Documents When Deleting Folders

I created a new folder and put all my writing into it, I was changing the icon and it wasn't liking the pictures so I just deleted the whole folder. I've searched everywhere on my Mac for the lost Pages documents and cannot find them anywhere, including the bin. Does anyone know how to find them and if-or they are gone for good?
