We understand that you're hearing some unexpected noises from your MacBook Air. We want to help! Do you hear the crackling/distorted sound with all audio that you play, or only some? Have you restarted your Mac since this began? If not, let's do that now to see if it helps: Log out, sleep, restart, or shut down your Mac
If the issue continues, reset the NVRAM next as that can help with many audio related issues: Reset NVRAM or PRAM on your Mac
If you still hear that crackling noise, let's see what happens in a test user account. This will let us know if the issue is system-wide or isolated to only your user account. Here's how to create that test account, just in case: Set up users, guests, and groups on Mac
