Turn on Apple menu > System Preferences > Apple ID > iCloud Drive (without turning on the Desktop and Documents option). Then if iCloud Drive does not show in the iCloud section of the Finder sidebar, go to Finder > Finder Preferences > Sidebar and turn that option on.


Then copy (or save new files) to the iCloud Drive folder in Finder.
