Malware on iPhone 11. What to do?

A few weeks ago, I received a text message from an unknown number, attached was a odd picture. I didn't click on the pic, because it reminded me of something my Mom, who's not tech savvy, would send, instead, I just deleted the text message. Since then, I've noticed strange things happening to my iPhone 11. Not sure if it's a coincidence or not, but Apps that use to work don't anymore. Apps that use to have my finger touch access are now requesting that I input my logon and password. I refuse to input my information until I can determine if my phone has Malware or a Virus. Should I reset my phone?

Hello lateshaBSM,

Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities. We understand that you have concerns regarding possible malware on your iPhone. There is likely another explanation for what you're experiencing, such as installing a new iOS update or making other changes to your iPhone, such as resetting settings or something similar.

Have you recently updated the iOS on your iPhone? If not, this would be the best place to start. Not only does this provide you with new features, it also updates your software security, to ensure you have the most updated security possible. The most recent iOS version is 14.0.1.

How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

If your device is already updated, have you recently restored it or reset your settings?

Are your apps up-to-date, that you're experiencing these issues with? If you're not sure, you can check in App Store > Account > Updates.

Update apps or use automatic downloads

Let us know if this helps.

Best wishes.

Hello lateshaBSM,

Thanks for following up! When dealing with the text messages, have you blocked the contacts? You can also report these messages directly to Apple's Investigation Team. Take a look at the articles below for help with these phishing or scam messages.

Yes, I am currently running iOS 14.0.1. I have deleted the bank apps and reloaded updated apps from the App Store, but I’m afraid of Malware recording my key strokes when I enter my Username and Password. I even “Reset” my phone in an effort to wipe it clean.

Nonetheless, I continue to receive bocus text messages (a badly worded FedEx text- I don’t have any packages from them, or Claim rewards text), they are persistent in trying to get me to click on the link- I keep deleting the texts. Is there a way to stop the texts?

If you haven’t jailbroken your phone you don’t have malware or any other hack on your phone. Rest easy.

To stop the texts, in the messages app back out to the top level using the “<“ icon and select Known Senders. You can also add a spam blocker from the app store
