Hi, I downloaded a 35.690x28.030 jpg file that I need for my studies, but Preview simply won't open it. I'm not even getting an error message or anything, just nothing is happening. I have a MacBook Pro 2015 2,7 GHz i5 8 GB Memory running on Catalina. What can I do? I forced-quit Preview, I restarted my Mac, I tried opening it with Open Any File, nothing works.

On my system with 32GB RAM Preview hangs (I waited a few minutes before forced quit).
Photoshop does open it.
Safari opens it only partially. Firefox completely, even though without the possibility to zoom in. Chrome loads nothing.
Is it really necessary to use an image with that size? Can't you use for your studies a reduced version?

Try a faster internet connection— your network may not be adequate.
If download is not the issue, you can try resizing it.
ex. graphicconverter Graphic Converter - Lemke Software
or download one of the smaller resolutions.

You are going to have problems with only 8 GB of memory and a file that large. I suggest you try reducing it by 50% and see if you can open and zoom in without blurriness.
There's a free app, Resize Master, that will resize it via a number of ways, %, max. dimension, etc. Try 50% and see if you can open it with Preview and zoom OK.
