External microphone on iMac

Hi there,

is there any possibility of using an external microphone over the headphone socket - avoiding the muting of the internal loudspeakers?

Since Apple decided to eliminate the microphone socket putting a mic into the headphone socket does it's job - however as the systems detects an external device it blocks the internal loudspeaker. (Apple's developers seem to be cleverer as the need of the users again 🤨)

Any help (or link to other posts with similar problems ... even better: solutions)
