I cannot physically connect my iphone 6 with my new MacBook as far as I can tell, yet I want to use the laptop to update the software on my phone. (There is not enough buffer to update the phone directly without deleting lots of photos. ) Any suggestions short of getting a newer phone?

Why can't you connect it?
The lightening connector input into the MacBook doesn't match anything I have. Is there a special cord I can buy to link up the iphone to the new MacBooks?
