Low volume in iPhone XS Max

While playing media:

All the three speakers are active but volume sounds like only 30% even when the volume bar is at 100%

When on a call:

On call speaker off:

Voice is barely audible in the ear speaker nearly 20%

On call speaker on:

Sound is audible in all three speakers. Barely audible in two speakers and around 30% in ear speaker.

Tried cleaning the speaker ports carefully with soft brush at an angle, tried all suggested solutions in sounds and haptics, tried reset settings, and at last reset my phone to factory reset. Still problem persists..

highly appreciate if you can provide the solution.

Thanks in advance.

Hello Ijuq8,

It sounds like you have tried testing this while on and off speakerphone, is that correct? If not, please test it out while on a call and see if the volume is still low on the receiver and the speakerphone. If you have EarPods or headphones available, please also test while those are connected and see if the volume is any louder.

Do you have VoLTE turned on? To check go to Settings > Cellular > Cellular Data Options. If it says "Voice & Data next to Enable LTE then VoLTE is turned on. If it is turned on, let's have you turn it off by tapping Data Only by Enable LTE. Then test and see how the volume levels sound and let us know if that resolves your issue or not.

Have a nice day!

Hello Ijuq8,

Thanks for giving those steps a try and updating us. Do you have a case on your iPhone? If so, let's remove it from the device and test again.

If the issue continues, let's try the following steps to help us isolate the speakers on your device:

1. Set the ring/silent switch to ring.

2. Go to Settings > Accessibility.

3. Tap Audio/Visual.

4. Slide the audio volume balance slider all the way to the right.

5. Go to Settings > Sound & Haptics > Ringtone.

6. Tap on a ringtone to play it.

7. Listen to the sound from the receiver.

Repeat the steps above, changing the audio volume balance slider to the left instead. Next, listen to the device speaker this time instead of the receiver. If no sound plays or if the sound is distorted or muffled, it's likely the device is experiencing a hardware issue and would need to be inspected for service. If this is the case, you can look into available service options here: Find Locations If this is not the case, let us know and we'll continue to help.

Thanks for using Apple Communities. Have a good one.

Dear Sterling r,

I tried the suggested solutions. Volume with slider at right is lesser that volume with slider at left. However overall volume remains low at at sound 30%!! with volume set at 100%. As you have pointed out, it may be a hardware issue. I think I will approach authorised service provider. Thank you very much for your time and suggestions.. Have a nice day..
