Try going Brand-for-Brand (Using an Apple Cable with an Apple Device). But, the main issue is that you are probably using a slower cable (USB 3.0 is what you need). So, when you purchase a new cable - Apple or not - get one that reads USB 3.0 on the Original Packaging.
