trying to reset my macbook air and don't see the drive icon when reinstalling?

Does the disk appear in Disk Utility? You can access this from the OS X Utilities screen before starting the El Capitan installer.


Depending on what you've done so far, you might need to select the disk in Disk Utility and use the Erase option to format it as Mac OS Extended (Journaled), typically giving it the name Macintosh HD. Then quit Disk Utility and try Reinstall OS X again.
