How do I update artist and album for tracks I have added?

I have added some AAC tracks to the Music app on my iMac (on Catalina).

So I have 5 tracks added and I click and drag around them, then click 'get info'.

I then edit multiple items, and set the artist and album name, hoping they will group together in an album.

Initially they did group. But when I came back an hour later they were ungrouped again.

  • When I look in the 'Songs' view in Library, it shows that they do not have the artist name assigned.
  • But when I click 'Get info' on an individual track, it shows that the artist has been set.

So the 2 views are contradicting themselves.

If I try to edit the artist name on the track again, it has no effect.

I have iTunes Match across multiple devices so I suspect it is some bug relating to that. Is there any fix other than deleting all tracks like this and adding them again?

Don't understand why Apple's music software is still so buggy after so many years!

Half the artist artwork in my library now has the wrong images suddenly as well.

D'oh!

I'm on Catalina 10.15.7

I'm pretty sure it has something to do with iCloud Music, which has always been a bit buggy.

In the end I had to simply delete all the tracks and start again.

If I edit the 'artist' and 'album' fields *before* the tracks sync up to iCloud then I don't seem to get the problem. I think it happens if I edit details after they have synced.

Hello thesheep,

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities, it's great to have you here. We understand that artist names the Music Application on your Mac shows correctly under: "Get info" but doesn't show the name in the "Song view". Also, you're having issue with the artwork showing wrong images as well. We'd be happy to look into these concerns with you.

To begin, can you verify for us the exact Catalina version you're using? Apple > About This Mac.

Also, have you tried force closing and re-opened the Music app to see if you continue to experience the same behavior?
