I got a message stating my icloud and account were locked and gave instructions to unlock. I clicked on it and it asked for id, name, address, password phone and social security number. Is this real or a scam

I received a message that my iCloud account had been closed due to suspicious activity. It asked me to sign in and then wanted my name, password, date of birth and then social security number. Is this real or a scam to get my info?

Definitely a scam

  • Apple would not warn of a pending account issue, giving you a deadline to fix the issue.
  • Apple does not include document, or PDF files to download.
  • Apple would not refer to you as Dear Customer, Dear Client, or anything other than the name on file for your account.
  • Apple would not have such horrible spelling or grammar.
  • Apple would not send a message to “Undisclosed Recipients”.

It is a phishing attempt. Do not respond. Do not divulge any personal or financial information. You can use the address below to forward the suspect email message, as an attachment to Apple.

1000% scam.

Apart from the grammar issues, the 24-hour ultimatum, and the social security number (seriously, why do you think Apple could possibly need your social security number to access your iCloud data?), the most telling is the link itself. The 'verify your account' links to http :// yateuoakd . laumekdemzds . com/?=ADBVCWCEXV. Does that look like a remotely legitimate Apple URL?
