A case for Construction workers

I ordered an otterbox defender which hasn't arrived yet. I used defender case on my 3G and it was perfect. But now hearing that the lens is left exposed, I wonder if anyone has any suggestions on another case as good as otterbox, that protects from elements like constant dirt and sawdust.

HP, Windows XP, iPhone 4

I think all cases would leave the lens exposed. Even products like invisible shield doesn't cover the lens for photo quality reasons. I would still go with the Otterbox for your line of work. It looks like the most durable case out there.

Not sure about the iPhone4 version of the Otterbox Defender... but I had the Defender for both the 3GS and an iPod touch. In the 3GS case, the lens is "open" as in unobstructed, so the camera still works. But there is a layer of clear-plastic incorporated in the case, which covers the screen, the camera-lens, and the apple logo. So those are all visible, but still covered and protected from scratches. The Defender case is great - undoubtedly the toughest case made. If you're in construction, or using your iPhone outside a lot, it's a must.

The otterbox defender for iphone 4 does not cover the lens as it did on the 3G. I did think of a workaround. I could use a screen protector, or a piece of a screen protector to cover the back lens and flash, before putting the iphone 4 into the case. This would enclose it from dirt and sawdust. 🙂 not a bad idea eh?

Yeah that should work. I was just at the AT&T store changing some things on my account and the rep saw my Otterbox. He was impressed. He has one for his 3gs and says he would recommend the case, although some people don't like it because of the bulkiness, it looks like it could take a beating 🙂

Uhhh, that was never the question...they were talking about the Apple logo and the camera and flash.

Yes I understand why they left it open because of flash glare. I'll still have to cover it up because believe me when I tell you, there is a HUGE amount of dust and dirt that will get in there constantly. Someone had mentioned it was a shame they didn't have a rubber flap there, to open and lock into place somehow. Oh well, nothing more I can do as otterrbox is the only choice.

I just received mine today - my husband is in construction. The $49 version DOES cover the front screen.

Seems like a good builder could make one with a few two by fours and some plexi. No, seriously I bought the otterbox for my daughter's 3GS. She broke many screens on iPods and iPod Touches.

I believe the reason they didn't put any plastic over the camera and flash is because there might be some distortion from the flash. That's just my guess.

The best case for work is otterbox.
The reason the the lens are open is for the camera quality, as adding a plastic over it will cause glare issues.
