Grey screen on MacBook Pro 13" 2012

I erased Macintosh HD prior to giving the MacBook to my daughter. Upon trying to restore using all three of the following at start-up, I receive a message that a "download is missing".

Command (⌘)-R

Reinstall the latest macOS that was installed on your Mac (recommended).

Option-⌘-R

Upgrade to the latest macOS that is compatible with your Mac.

Shift-Option-⌘-R

Reinstall the macOS that came with your Mac, or the closest version still available

Trying a normal restart, I get a grey screen.

The MacBook has had its keyboard replaced if that could have something to do with the issue.

I have a TimeMachine backup if needed.
