Can I receive and send texts on Series 6 Watch Cellular but no monthly plan?

I am considering buying a cellular version of the Series 6 watch. It i DON'T want a monthly cellular plan, can I still send and receive texts (assuming my phone is nearby) via Wifi? Thank you.

Yes, through your phone. You can use it exactly the same way you would use the GPS only watch if you don't have cell service on it.
