The volume on my macbook air is very low when its up max. Settings have been checked and they are at the correct setting i.e output speaker is up full. Can anyone advise on how this can be fixed or what the problem is?

An NVRAM Reset is justified for that problem: Reset NVRAM or PRAM on your Mac - Apple Support. Then, readjust the volume.
