Photos in the Photos app are blurry/lower quality until you zoom in anywhere and it changes to a higher quality picture.

Why is this happening? It's obviously something to do with the software. All my images are blurry until I zoom in and back out and it almost like switches to the original high quality picture. I've seen that this has happened to a few people before but haven't seen a solution. I've attached two pictures that I screenshotted from my camera roll. It's pretty obvious and annoying.

No, it's on my iphone. And I still have space. The photos are on my phone, it should not have anything to do with an external volume. The photos are in the photos app.

Are you using iCloud Photos? If yes, is the option "Optimise iPhone Storage" enabled?

In that case Photos may have optimised the storage. It will keep smaller, low resolution, blurry versions of the photos on the iPhone, if the storage on the Hone gets low. When you view a photo enlarged, Photos will download a full resolution version of the photo and it will be sharper.

If your local storage permits it, disable the "Optimise iPhone Storage" option. Then you do not have to wait for the download from Cloud to see your photos in a high quality. Optimise Storage is turned on by default.

Go to Settings > [your name] > iCloud > Photos, then tap "Download and keep Originals" instead of "Optimize iPhone Storage".

No, I don't use iCloud photos at all. I'm a firm user of google photos. Which is why this problem makes even less sense.

Are you perhaps running low on storage on your Mac?

Photos may not be able to save the previews of your photos. Or is your Photos Library on an external volume, that is not always accessible? Ot have you been running any cleaning applications to remove duplicates?
