Why is the apple watch Series 2 no longer supported?

I love my Apple Watch Series 2. Why is this no longer supported? Frustrated that Apple thinks I'm made of money and when something is still functioning fine and not damaged they pull support to force you to upgrade.

It still works just like it did, just that there will be no more OS updates.

Like all thing computer related the software has outgrown the hardware.
