Getting Kontrol49 working with Logic - A SOLUTION!

okay after much tinkering and exploring files and folders I found the missing piece of the puzzle!

Select "Song settings" - "MIDI" in the "File" menu and open the song setting dialog. Set "Software instruments" to "MIDI Controllers 65-127 (Version 4.x behaviour)".

This will get your Logic plugins working for you!

get in touch if it doesn't work

Hi Ivan,

I have contributed to much of the thread you mention, so of course, I have read through it. I certainly wouldn't say the old method is flawless. I used it for a long time before 7.1 came around and it is a very very long way from using native mode.

- You have to manually make new scenes for every plugin/instrument you own

- You are stuck with very limited parameter decriptions for plugins and instruments

- The mixer environment template only works for 8 channels without having to re-cable in the environment. And is a very bulky solution to say the least.

- Inserting a plugin on an Logic-instrument over-rides the automation parameters of your scene. (without having to go back to the old object based automation of Logic 4 - which for me, I am not prepared to do so).

All this IMHO, makes it far from satisfactory. If you are happy with it, then great I am pleased for you.

If people can get their head around native mode, it really is worlds ahead. It is not perfect, but it is a **** of a lot more intuitive.

If native mode was not working on my keyboard, I would certainly send it back - or do a fresh reinstall of Logic.

There is something wrong with your system!

Happy to try and help, Ivan 🙂

In Logic, go to Control Surface Support and set Logic to scan for for any available control surfaces. It should detect the korg as a control surface and create a little icon for it.

Now, quit out of Logic, go back in and it should automatically start the Korg in Native mode. This should now happen every time you start up Logic.

For details on how to automate instruments/plugins using native mode, check the instructions posted in the other korg kontrol thread.

If Logic is not detecting the keyboard as a control surface, try doing a fresh reinstall of Logic. If this doesn't work , I think there might be something wrong with your keyboard.

Hope you can get it going!

Alex
