reformatting a macbook pro

I am trying to reinstall macpro lion X OS with disk utility v12.1.1 and I am unable to format the drive using apfs format but the only option available is "Mac OS Extended (journaled)


how can i get the disk utility to reflect APFS format?

Boot into Internet Recovery Mode (Command + Option + R) and use Disk Utility to erase the whole physical drive using these instructions:
