My 1st generation Apple Pencil is paired to my iPad and connected to the Bluetooth but it still wont work what do I need to do?

3rd generation what? If it’s an iPad Pro 12.9 3rd gen you need a 2nd gen pencil.

3rd generation iPad. I have had the pencil for a year and it has never given me a problem before it just started to.
