profile photo on messages app is missing. It shows up Everywhere but not on my received messages

We understand that your Messages app isn't displaying contact photos the way you'd expect it to, and we'd like to learn more. To clarify, are you not seeing the images at the top of the conversation history? The reason we ask is that starting in iOS 13, contacts have the option to select whether they share a profile photo or Memoji in the Messages app. We have more details in the section "Change your name and photo" here:

Do you know whether your profile photo appears when you send messages to others? This will help us better isolate the problem.
