Hi, I'm just wondering is it necessary to pay online then pickup? Can I just walk into the store and pay for my iPhone 12 pro on 23rd?

No, if you want a phone to be there on launch day, you will have to pre-order it and pay for it. You can either choose in-store pickup or delivery. You cannot pre-order one and then pay when you pick it up.
