Two-factor authentication no longer optional

Discovered recently that my Apple TV 1st generation is not friendly to two-factor authentication, and it took me about 45 minutes to finally get it to accept a password + authentication code generated from my IPhone. Does Apple seriously consider that long-term customers like me (I started with an Apple II pc) will put up with this approach? I cannot either get Apple TV+ because Sony (who use Android OS on their TVs) and Apple can't talk and put the Apple TV+ app on their smart TVs. I will no longer rent Apple movies, and this will push my move further to Netflix and anyone else who has a sensible approach to customer convenience.
