Space demands of shared photo albums
Is there a way for subscribers to shareD photo albums to view without taking up space on their device?

Shared albums are not stored in "your" iCloud space. They are hosted for free by Apple. Shared albums are only visible in an iOS or Mac photo app. If you create a public website for your shared album, they would also be visible on the web using a URL Apple hosts for you.
