Use a Reader:

Are you using an SD Card? If so, unlock it, slipping up the lock button so that it is unlocked.

Compatibility and Software:

If you are using a card reader, make sure it is Apple Compatible. Also, remove Security Software (if installed), as it may be disallowing access to these cards.

Try a different device:

See if you can read the card on another device. If it works, then it is something that pertains to this Mac, you are using.

Try Using A Reader:

When it comes to using the cabled, doing Company-for-Company is not necessary, but for troubleshooting connectivity, using this adapter is the way to go about this..

Use a New User:

Try creating a new Administrator user, and see if you can access it to through that user. If it works, then it is something configured in the current user.
