Phone wont activate

My son’s phone-he has had for over 3 years-stopped getting cellular signal and would only work when connected to wifi. I did the update and it didnt work. I tried the hard reset and now it says it cannot activate the phone at all

unable to activate so i reset my iphone 7 because it said cellular data wasn't able to work on my device until updated, although my iphone wouldn't update for some reason so i thought it might work to just reset it. long story short, it didn't. after getting my phone ready to unlock after resetting it, it said it was unable to activate and didn't allow me to do anything other than to shut off my iphone. any way to activate my phone again? thanks:)

Unable to activate is coming up on my screen what does this mean When I try to activate my daughters phone that her cousin gave to her it says Unable to activate. An update is required to activate your iPhone. Learn more at apple.com/support.

Unable to Activate My I Phone 5s showing unable to activate after several tries. Also checked the sim card status but same issue showing again and again. Connceted to other network / wifi also.
