iPhone ringer volume lowers itself

The ringer volume on my iPhone 11Pro max mysteriously lowers the ringer volume to zero. It has done this in the past and then goes away, but now it’s back and super annoying. I’m hoping it will go away with iOS 14.0.2. 🤞

I have the same problem. The ringer volume goes to zero and I miss calls. This has nothing to do with face recognition since it happens when I am not looking at phone. But, thanks for trying.

If your iPhone rings at a normal volume, then decreases when you look at it, it is not mysterious at all. In fact, it's doing what it's supposed to do when you have "Attention Aware" turned on in Settings > Accessibility > Face ID & Attention > Attention Aware Features.

The point of it is that once you are aware of your phone ringing, meaning you are now looking at your phone, the volume of the ringer diminishes on purpose. The people around you might really appreciate this. People really appreciate the feature on my phone!

Sorry, but that’s not the issue. The issue is the ringer volume slider in Settings>Sounds & Haptics goes from fully up/loud (where I normally have it) to fully down/off (slider all the way to the left) while the iPhone is on/asleep sitting on my desk, in my pocket, etc. I have had Attention Aware both on and off to no effect, other than Attention Aware doing what it’s supposed to do - slightly lowering the ringer volume when it senses my face.

I hope this clears up any confusion with the issue. However if the purpose of Attention Aware is to completely lower the volume and not return it to my previous level, then it’s working perfectly and my post can be disregarded. 😬

Now the slider for call volume stays up where I set it in System>Sounds & Haptics, but only the haptics activate when I get a call but my chosen ring tone doesn’t play, and I also have the iPhone set to announce calls and that doesn’t happen either. DND and Silent are both off... I checked. Junk callers is on, but the calls aren’t immediately sent to voicemail as the setting indicates is supposed to happen.
