MacBook Air keeps disconnecting from Wi-Fi every time I am using my iPhone. Why?
Hello everyone, so I’ve tried googling this but I can’t seem the find an answer anywhere.
Background info: I have a MacBook Air and an iPhone XR, both updated to the latest versions of the respactive OS and both connected to the house Wi-Fi. These are the only two devices connected to it, along with my Chromecast.
The issue is that, whenever I am using my iPhone (usually on apps like WhatsApp, Gmail, Safari, but not only those) this causes my MacBook Air to disconnect from the house Wi-Fi.
It’s just for a few seconds then it connects again, but it’s really annoying especially when I am using a VPN because though the MacBook Air reconnects to the Wi-Fi automatically and seamlessly, I have to restart the VPN manually.
I thought this was due to the limited bandwidth of my Wi-Fi, and maybe it was not enough to support both my iPhone’s and my MacBook Air’s connection so I tried disconnecting my iPhone from the Wi-Fi and use my cell data in order to leave all the Wi-Fi bandwidth for the computer to use, but it keeps happening all the same.
What’s keeps my iPhone and my MacBook Air linked once one of them is connected to the Wi-Fi and the other isn’t? There must be some kind of clash that makes my laptop disconnect from the Wi-Fi.
This is not something that happened once or twice, it’s been happening every single day for months at least once (sometimes once every ten minutes, so you get this is pretty annoying).
The only way I can prevent this from happening is not picking up my iPhone while I’m using my MacBook but you understand it’s quite hard if not impossible, also because I don’t need to be using my iPhone actively for this to happen, sometimes it occurs even if I just receive an email or a text on WhatsApp.
I have not tried this on a different Wi-Fi other than my own, but again, I don’t think it’s a Wi-Fi issue since it keeps happening even when my phone is not connected to it.
Can somebody please help me understand why this is happening? Does it have to do with my Apple ID being used on two devices at once? I don’t think so, but that’s the only thing that is constantly linking my two devices in all the tests I’ve made.
Thank you.
PS: I have posted this using my iPhone and my MacBook got disconnected twice during the time it took me to write this.
