Charging and display issues

For the past few week my MacBook Pro has been very glitchy. Specifically there has been 2 major problems to note:

1) The charger won't charge the laptop intermittently. If I leave it for a few hours it will start to charge again. I've SMC restart etc. Doesn't work at the time. Very annoying if I am in an important meeting and the battery runs out and won't charge.

2) After running a few programs for a while (not sure this is related as it doesn't feel overheated), the screen will become pixelated and somewhat translucent. For example if I minimise a page it remains on the screen with a degree of transparency. This seems to resolve if I leave the compute for a while.

Potentially related there are some permanent horizontal lines in the top menu bar.

Would really appreciate some help!

Thanks in advance :)

Permanent horizontal lines on the display indicate a hardware problem. Charging issues could be charger or computer related and the quickest way to determine which is to try charging with a different charger or to try using that charger on a different computer. Since a charging problem might be rather minor but can escalate quickly it is not a good idea to continue using the computer and charger until the source is determined and fixed. The pixelation issues also indicate a hardware issue.

Bottom line: shut down the computer and contact AppleCare, make an appointment with an Apple Genius, or take the computer to an authorized service center.
