How to delete a single mail from a thread in ipados?

After moving up to iPadOS from iOS 9, I can‘t find a way to delete individual messages from a thread in Apple Mail. In iOS 9, the individual messages in thread view could still be selected for deletion. How can I do this in iPadOS 14?

Well, I finally figured this out for myself. In iOS9, clicking on the latest message in a thread immediately opened an indented list of messages in that thread. In iPadOS, selecting the latest message only displays a tiny circle containing a „>“ in the uppr right of the item in the navigation pane. Clicking on this circle makes the „>“ point downward instead of to the right; then the other messages in the thread are displyed below as in iOS9, and can be individually selected for deletion. Fortunately, I have an Apple Pencil for my iPad, otherwise I would be out of luck: this tiny circle is far too small to be fingertipped, even by an infant. This is the ultimate irony: when I complained in another thread about operations I found difficult to accomplish with pencil and keyboard, I was told that the iPad was intended to be operated by fingertips. ;-{

Thanks for responding, but I was already familiar with all of the operations described in the linked article. When I try them in thread view, the entire thread is deleted. I usually want to keep only the latest message in a thread, because it usually contains the entire correspondence anyway, and delete the earlier messgaes in the thread. This was easy to do in iOS 9, but, in iPadOS I don‘t find a way to select individual messages for deletion without disabling thread view. Without thread view, however, it is much harder to find the individual messages in the thread that I want to delete.
