Trade-In / Upgrade

I have an iPhone 11 that I tried to trade in for an 11 pro max. I was not able to trade in at the time, I was told I have to wait until the new iPhone comes out. Being that the iPhone 12 is now coming out , am I able to now trade in my iPhone 11? Or do I have to wait for the official release date.?
