Can I transfer/restore from an older iPad?

I have a first gen. 9.7 iPad Pro running 14.0.1 - other than that, it does not have some of my apps latest settings and preferences since I used it mostly for reading.

I am selling my 2018 10.5 iPad Pro. I used that for some foreign TV channel apps and they have my latest reserved movie settings, etc. (bought a new 11” instead).

Before wiping the 10.5 iPad, can I make a backup on my Mac and then use that to restore the older 9.7 iPad to bring the apps and contents up to date? Should I wipe the whole thing and then just use restore?

Yes you can if the iPadOS is the same or newer.

Note:

You cannot restore a backup made with the later iPadOS version to a device with a lower iPadOS/iOS version.

The iPad version must be same or newer than the backup.
